I just got hold of a FX5900 AGP the other day. When I put it in, immediately on restart, even on the bios screen, I get these yellow bars vertical down the screen and the screen shakes really bad. When it gets to the XP load screen, the bars turn blue. Then, I get a black screen that never goes any farther. If I boot into safe mode, the screen is really strange colors and I cant change resolutions. Ive tried installing the newest drivers in safe mode, but it seems a lost cause. I can post a pic if you guys need to see what the screen looks like.

Also, something odd. I found a thread on another site that mentioned that I had to change to a standard graphics adapter before I can install this new card. How do I do that? It never seems to be an option that I can find in the hardware installer.

Newest BIOS and motherboard drivers are installed too.

XP Media Center Edition
2800+ Barton
DFI AD77 motherboard

You didn't pay too much for the 5900, did you? Sounds like you got a bad card.

Yeah....thats what I was afraid of. But no, I got a suburb deal on it. I've actually already contacted the person i got it from to see if they have a replacement.

The best thing you can do is try to return it or replace it, but if you cant you can always play around with the cards bios and such if you didnt pay that much for it.

Pardon my ignorance. But how you do you get to the cards bios?

you should be able to find bios update tools from nvidia that alow you to flash the cards bios with a bios that you found at nvidia or somewere else.
