Do Equal Athlon X2 & Opteron 2xx cans bench mark the same in appx.

Equal Systems? I tried to get that question answered at the AMD/Microsoft

Tech Tour & they will Not talk about it.

We think the chips are the same, perhaps selected, with some features

enabled in Opteron's.............

Actually when you compare the x2 4800 to the opty 280 they are about the same sometimes the x2 wins like in games and sometimes the opty wins like in apps which require moving alot of ram around.

Consider that the S939 and S940 platforms are'nt meant to be used in the same environnement.

An X2 4800+ and Opteron 180 (Socket 939) would perform the same since they are based on the exact same core and meant to be used in the same type of motherboards.

An Opteron 280 (Socket 940) is meant to be used on a two socket server/workstation motherboard, as such, it requires Registered DDR memory and set itself appart by being able to use a lot more bandwidth due to the HTT links between the two sockets and better memory controllers.
