core voltage is stock 1.58 now is 1.6

Is this a question or a statement? Ok, I'm being banal.

Either you have hit the limit of what the cpu is capable of, or, the limit that your HTT or RAM can go. If you haven't been using memory dividers and timing changes then read:

http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=300

Otherwise be contented that you gained an 8% performance boost for diddly squat (apart from the extra electricity cost).

i have the 3700 asus a8n32sli deluxe with 4 512 corsair xms
and reached 2730mhz not very stable i have had it at 2630mhz
for almost a year and just recently dropped it to 2410mhz
and i am leaving it there or going back to stock 2.2
because i cant see any diff

I have to say your ram is limiting you. Trying to OC your processor with low quality ram is a no-no.

Your processor seems to be a Socket 754, socket 939 versions run at 2.2ghz stock, not 2.4.

mine is 939 and i have the corsiar xms i have 4 512s
i can over clock better with just 2 512s than i can with 4
because 4 512s put my timing x2 instead of x1
but my comp is twice as fast with 4 512s than it is with 2

Try lowering your HTT multiplier, should be a bios option, lower it by 1 from where it is currently at(if it is set to 5, set it to 4; if it is set to 4, set it to 3). Also, try locking your pci and pci-express buses.

Finally, keep in mind that as you raise your FSB, or HTT, you must loosen the timings on your ram.

Do you know what core your 3700+ is based off of? Clawhammers generate quite a bit of heat(compared to other AMD processors), and often overclock less. Processors that have a Venice or San Diego core overclock very well.

I found an overclocking chart not that long ago that explained all this, will post again if I find it.

Edit:

Found the chart and other stuff. Just go to this link:
http://wiki.extremeoverclocking.com/wiki/Athlon_64_Overclocking_Guide

Does a very good job describing the overclocking process.

i have the sandy core and i have already had it to 2730mhz
stable at 2610mhz it is currently at 2430 and i am prob going to set it back to 2.2 because there is no diff except on benchmarks
as far as x5 x4 and all that other stuff i have tried all that
the 2.6 overclock was at stock volts for about 8 months
adding the 2 xtra 512s made the biggest diff and the
only other overclocking i have done is with the video card
<6800gt stock on 3dmark05 score of 5000 and overclocked a little
over 6000 on 3dmark05> as far as games bf2 fear flightsim oblivion
i have the demo for prey which is pretty cool and oblivion is
pretty to look at. overclocking has no effect on how the games look
i would like sli but with a 6 series card at 300dollars for another 6800
i can get 2 7600gt fo the same price so i am going to stick with my 6800gt
and wait about 6 months for the dx10 cards

I think I figured it out.

When you added the extra 2 512mb ram sticks, the memory controller automatically lowered the latencies on the ram. That would make sense since it also allowed you to overclock more. Try lowering the latencies on your ram again, that might allow you to go even higher.

Just be careful, I don't want you frying your computer.

i dont care to over clock my comp it runs just fine and the same
whether it is at 2.2 2.4 or 2.6 i just had to try it for a while everybody talks about it and i wanted to see if it makes things better and it doesnt
or at least i cant see any gains its just bragging rights

Stock it's 2.2 not 2.4. I had mine a cunthair under 2.8. It ran great and wanted to go more. Unfortunately at that time, all I had was the stock cooling fan, and it wouldn't keep it cool. I can't remember my settings, but the ram I was using was ocz platinum/ 2 1gig sticks/ cas lat 2. running 400/3200. Potential is there.

Bragging rights, fun, and squeezing every last bit of performance out of your system. Yep, thats overclocking.

Enjoy your system then.

i can get my 3700+ running stably at 2.8 at 1.45v. i have no idea why you should need your voltage that high.
max temp hits about 45c wi8th an arctic freezer 64.

try dropping your voltage and using a memory divider as suggested elsewhere in the posts. also run mem test to check if its not just ur memory getting errors at such high speeds. dropping the timings from 1T to 2T might solve your problems.

a 400mhz or a 600mhz OC will makje a huge difference.
time video encoding at stock and then crank it up and see the difference.
