Im waiting for the Conroe Extreme edition to be released for my new gaming rig, do you guys think SLI would be worth it? if so whats the difference between the Normal XFX 7900 GTX and the extreme verison?

Also, Is intel releasing new mother boards when conroe is released?

I dont seem to like the GX2 idea at all :x

My new Rig

Conroe Extreme 2.97GHz
Mother Board yet unknown
Duel WD Raptors 74GB Raid 0
Corsair XMS 2GB ram
Creative X-Fi Sound if there is any space left from SLI
^^^
Any good?

Hmm, a tricky one.

If you max out the rest of the system (I'd suggest a massive storage drive before SLi) and you're getting the 7900GTX anyway, then a second 7900GTX would be the logical improvement to make, assuming you have a screen large enough to take advantage of the enhancements.

However, DX10 cards will be the big thing (and not too long after Core 2's release) and you'll want those for sure. And you won't want to throw away two graphics cards.

I would save the money, go for one 7900GTX and put the money towards a DX10 compatible card in the future.

I would do the same, buy one now, and save the money for the DX10 later this year.

unless you want to play at very high resolution, then there is no point from SLI really, in fact the overhead make it worse for low resolution rendering

I know the Xtreme Verison is supposed to be the best, but its not the most expensive one. Why are there 3 Versions of 7900 GTX?? Which one would be the best one to buy??

1) Get the one with the fastest memory/clock speed

2) Don't bother with 512mb, practically no games need it. Save the cash!
a b U Graphics card
a b V Motherboard

if memory serves.... all of the 7900GTX cards have 512MB of ram on them.... if he took your advice and avoided the 512mb cards, he would be getting a GT instead of a GTX.

damn good. This will cost a bomb... The X6800 cost 999 by itself.. 2x raptor, another 999...

anyway, if u insist on getting SLI get 2 7900GT instead. I wouldnt recomment 2 7900GTX because that will consume almost 250 watt.... whereas 2 7900GT will consume only 140 at most.
