Well it definitely faster than your old PC, but the Celeron D is a poor performer nowadays. But hey, I was free anyway.

Definitely upgrade the with a video card, but nothing too power hungry, your PSU is only 300w. If you got the budget for it then get the 7600GT. If you're an ATI guy, then get the X1600XT. But I think the 7600GT should be better.

The Compaq has an Asus motherboard? What happened to the whitebox supplier Foxconn...lol...

I would buy a 2 x 1 GB DDR2-533 RAM kit and a 7600 GT. While you're at it, buy a bigger hard drive and a real copy of Windows or go all-Linux - that copy you got has the Compaq bloatware on it. You'll notice that everything will work a lot faster.

The 300W PSU should be fine for a 7600, but you may want to look into a new one - make sure it'll fit, or else an extensive case mod may be in order.

That's a nice prize, have fun & enjoy it. :D 8)

Graphics card & memory would be a good upgrade for the moment.
7600GT or X1800GTO.
At least 1gig for the memory.

Good idea on the memory, but I would definetly go for the 7600 GT. This card has excellent performance, and a satisfying bang-for-your-buck for around $175

A 300W won't even power a 6600GT - though I think they are at 110nm and not 90. I know I blew one up. Nowadays it's best to go for 400W at least so if it's not the best and you have a lower power card it will still work.

I think FoxConn even makes mobos for mobo companies.

the way you guys are offering tips for him to upgrade is just retarded...

look at it this way, the stuff ur telling him to upgrade will just build him a new pc:
1) hdd
2) gfx
3) ram
4) psu

i dunno, does this look like a new computer?

I'd like to know if even 1 of your 4000+ posts is something positive. Take out all your negative, demeaning, or "your stuff is crap" type posts, and the "die noob die" posts, and i bet there isn't much content left. Unreal....climb back into your bunker, with the rats.
