OK, I just built my new system. Asus A8R32 MVP-Deluxe, Opteron 175, as yet un-verclocked, 2GB OCZ PC4000, and an HIS Radeon X1900XTX with IceQ3 cooling.

Looking at the ATi Tray, it says my core speed is 500MHz, and my RAM is 594Mz. Is this normal? It's supposed to be 650 or so core. Does the radeon run slowly in windows, but speed up to its full speed when running a 3D game?

In 3DMark05, I'm getting a tad over 10000. I can't check the speed, as getting out of it takes it back to Windows.

exactly. the card runs at slower clockspeeeds and lower voltage in 2d, but speeds up in 3d mode

Ok, this is a real problem, I think.

I have the latest Omega drivers installed.

I ran Far Cry last night with everything turned up to maximum, while showing the ATi Tray's OSD for FPS, core speed and memory speed. Even in areas where it was pushing a bit, and the FPS dropped, the core and memory speeds remained the same, at 500MHz, and 594MHz respectively. Now, they should be 650MHz and 1.55GHz respectively. I need help! I don't want a sucky card, and I don't want to have to wait months for technical support, followed by a warranty replacement!

From what I can see, it looks like they are set to 500MHz and 600MHz in the BIOS.

If I have a quid given to me every time someone complains about X1900s....

anyway... Your card ain't faulty, merely your brain. The card actively clocks lower for 2D apps and desktop, and boosts its speed when in 3D apps. My X1900XT does exactly the same thing as what you describe so there's nothing WRONG!!!

Despite te fact that it still says it's at the low speed when running intensive 3D apps?

I don't thnk ATI Tray actually changes what it says when the X1900 speeds up for 3D. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you really feel that it's a problem, use FRAPS to find your average FPS in Far Cry, then compare it to benchmark scores (make sure it's on the same settings). If you notice a significant difference, there's probably some sort of problem, in which case you should talk to ATI tech support.

ATI Tray Tools do not fully support x1xx series cards yet. That might be your problem. Trust me, your card is running full speed during games. Try opening CCC and go to ATI Overdrive and see what it says for your "Requested" speeds. Those are the speeds your card runs at under 3D apps.

OK, thanks. I don't have CCC, though.

It should be alright. I see people with X1900XTX and an Opteron running at 2.7GHz getting 12000 in 3D Mark, so 10000 sounds about right for me at 2.2GHz.

With ati's drivers, you can overclock it to 700MHz/1600MHz

That would explain a bit. AtiTool doesn't show the increase of core/mem speed, even if you have it up on a second monitor whilst the first monitor plays the game. I will reiterate, the card's not faulty... its just the programs you use to monitor the card don't yet fully support X1xxx series cards.
