More Information

I just bought an ALI USB2.0 PCI card for my computer since I only had USB1.1 ports. My Biostar mainboard : P4X266E-8235 (I know its cheap stuff!) says it fully supports USB2.0 in the manual. Im running WinXP PRO Sp2 with all the latest updates on a P4 2.53Ghz machine with 1GB of DDR ram.

I installed the card and drivers supplied with in my PC. Everything seemed ok. But when I plug in a USB device the computer freezes and I have to reboot from the restart button on my case. I checked the device manager for any conflicts but there wasnt but when I click on the Universal Bus Controls / ALI PCI To USB Open host controller the system freezes again and I have to reboot!

The strange thing is here : Im running a dual boot system, the other operating system is WinXP Pro SP2 too but i think it doesnt have all the updates cause I rarely use it and I dont have a lot of software installed too. The USB2.0 card here works just fine.. All devices work when plugged etc.. etc.. But I cant really switch to use this version of Windows because its installed on an old hard drive which I think it can fail very soon!

What can be wrong with my regular operatings system and USB2.0?

I just tried to boot in safe mode of the regular operating sytem I use and I found out that ALL my USB devices (pen drives, blue tooth, camera etc..) where recognized when I plugged them in!

But the problem seems to persist in Normal mode!
