I copied a number of Word files to my PPC's SD or CF card or in some
instances to the main memmory (copied via Activesync which converted them).
Now I can see them when in Pocket Word (see a list of them and open them),
but when trying to browse (via either File Explorer on the PPC or from
"Explore" on the Activesync menu) I cannot find them. Any suggestions on how
to see them? Thanks,

Not meaning to insult your ability or anything, but you need to navigate to
the directory you put them in, in either case. On the PPC that may involve
navigating up to My Device in the built-in File explorer and then back down
into My Documents, or SD Card or Storage Card or wherever. On the desktop,
if the files are not in My Documents in Main RAM, which is what AS Explore
defaults to, you need to double click the My Pocket PC icon at the top left
to get up to the Device root, to then get to SD cards or file stores, or
other directories. (clicking the up folder in the file explorer window won't
take you there). Note that you are looking for .psw files, not .doc files if
AS converted them, but the extensions don't show in the PPC File Explorer
anyway.

I was definitely navigating to each and every folder (both with File Explorer
and with Explorer of Activesync), but I never did see the files. However, I
searched for some of them by filename in file explorer, and it showed them in
the list, but I cannot tell what folder they are in (it just lists them).
Any other suggestions? Are they hidden or something by default?

Well, since neither the built in File Explorer or the AS Explore have a find
feature, I must assume you are using the built-in Find function/application,
(or you have a third party file explorer). And yes, that unfortunately
doesn't tell you where things are except that it puts a little SD card
looking icon to the left of files that are in non-volatile storage. That
could be a replaceable card or on the user RAM portion, just not in main
memory.

One thing you could try is to find the file as you did, and open it from
there. In both Word and Excel there is a Save As option in the Tools Menu.
When you select that it will give you options of what to save the file as,
and also where. The where part, both Folder and Location (SD card, Main
Memory) are filled in with where the file currently is. Note that the Folder
assumes that there is a My Documents directory and any folders listed there
are sub folders of My Documents. The option None, means in My Documents
directly.

Note that the Word and Excel file lists don't understand more than one
folder level below My Documents. My Documents\Word is OK, but My
Documents\Word\Personal is not. At least the application list won't see
those, but a file explorer should. That is unfortunately the opposite
problem as you have.

There is no reason the files should be hidden. To be sure though, if you tap
and hold on a white area, usually below the last file, in File Explorer, you
get a context menu that has the option "View All Files". Getting that
checked will show all the hidden files.

Another thing to check is whether you actually do have a My Documents folder
on your Flash card and in your User ROM space (iPaq File Store or Dell
Built-In Storage). If you do, you should also not have a file called
ignore_my_docs.

Last resort in bizarre problems like this is a hard reset, taking the device
back to factory defaults. That means you need to re-install all your apps
and re-partner and re-sync, so if you feel that that's going to be needed,
make sure you have everything saved that you want. There is a backup
function, but if you have developed a strange OS problem, restoring from a
backup-generally restores the problem.

Hope some of this helps.
