Ok, BEFORE I had read many messages on this board, I was wondering why my Radeon X1900XT was showing up as a 500 MHz GPU and a 594MHz while I was taking the readings from ATi Tray Tools. I am NOW aware that ATi has a feature that lowers the clock speeds. So here is my actual question:

How do I actually enable overclocking in ATi Tray Tools?

I have NO experience at overclocking and I am just curious if I can get my card to XTX levels. I have tried to play around with it, but cant seem to make sense out of it and I dont want to do anything that could damage my card.

My goal
I want my 2D levels to remain low, but I want to increase my 3D levels to XTX (or possibly a little higher) just to try and squeeze some more FPS out of Doom 3 and FEAR.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Can someone provide me a detailed description. I know there are plenty of veterans out there

Download the latest beta.

Setup an Overclock profile first to save settings & fan speed to.

Go into settings & tick lock reference divider, then use the drop down menu and click fan settings, adjust the fan settings profile to suit you. Use 100% for testing, but later setup the Dynamic based on GPU temp.

I just hit the find max core buttton first, let it scan up until it detects artifacts (a donk noise), abort, back off 10MHz & save. Default the speed, then do the same for memory.

Step-by-step 1900 series overclocking guide. It covers everything from light overclocks to hard-core volt modding. I have the x1900xt (Sapphire) and it hits xtx speeds without breaking a sweat. Yours probably will, too.

Also, ATI Tray Tools and ATITool are two different programs in case you were wondering. :D

Right and I want to know how to OC using ATi Tray Tools not ATITools. I want to have just ONE program running my video card, not two, unless it is the only way.

Thanks

Goto ATI Tray Tools, Hardware, Overclocking Settings, Show 3D renderer, then use it the same way you would use ATITool.

Also, if you only want one program for your graphics card, you should exit the CCC (ati2evxx.exe)

One more thing, ATI Tray Tools doesn't allow you to do software volt-modding. It shouldn't affect you unless you really wanna push your card as far as it can go, but it's something to consider down the road. Personally, I prefer ATITool because it's a quick-and-easy solution, but you might like ATI Tray Tools better because of its wealth of options.

I dont even have CCC installed. I just install the regular drivers and WDM drivers and then I installed tray tools on top of it. I use ATi Tray tools, because it uses less sytem resources and I can fine tune my games much better with it.

I am not at home right now, so I cant give much specifics, but I cant seem to enable overclocking using TRay tools. I remember that it said overclocking was disabled when I clicked the overclocking tab and it said I needed to set up a profile in order to oc in 3D and it wouldnt let me do that. I dont recall, but maybe I disabled overclocking when I installed the program and should reinstall it. My goal is to get my XT to XTX speeds and maybe a little bit higher. Nothing huge though.

Ill keep you posted. In the mean time thanks for the help

Thanks a bunch. I appreciate it. Ill give that a try.

Since, I have an ASUS card, I used the SMARTDOCTOR utility that came with the card, and it allows me to overclock as well. SHould I use that?

I have no experience with ASUS cards/Smartdoctor so I really can't say. Sorry.

Smartdoctor is good in that it limits your overclock, but you can't get all you can/want out of it.

AtiTool will.

You could try the Omega drivers also, but some Asus cards only seem to like the Asus drivers from their website, don't know why.
