hi

I'm trying to re-install windows xp, but after the files have been copied and the restart, it loops back to the part where I have to pick which partition to house the OS.

A helpful fellow suggested that it might be because the system boots from the CD again after the restart -- so I removed the CD before the system can boot from it -- and there it was ... invalid partition table.

If you go to your BIOS, does it detect your HDD? During re-install, did it ask you "An existing version of windows found - override?" If you have your BIOS set for CDROM then Hard disk, that is OK. It will ask you to hit any key to boot from CD, if no reply after 5 seconds, it will boot from your HDD. If you delete your partition, your data is lost. I assume you want to repair, not reinstall.
