I've got about $600 to make a decent gaming computer. I've got monitor, sound card, speakers, case, hard drive, dvd drive. Here's what I've got for the rest:

CPU: Athlon 64 3500+ ($115)

Mobo: Asus K8N5X ($75)

Video Card: Geforce 7900 GT ($240 after MIR)

RAM: Corsair Valueselect 1GB ($82)

Power Supply: FSP 400W ($42)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817104953

Shipped at newegg this is just above $600 ($570 MIR). My only concerns are the wattage on the PSU and the fact that the mobo only supports SATA 1.5gb/s.

Let me know if you have suggestions. Thanks.

The price looks good on that PSU, but I thought that I needed dual 12v rails? Also, I don't know too much about hard drives, so how much difference is there between the sata 1.5gb/s and the sata 3gb/s?

Whats the difference between the 20+4 pin and the 24 pin power supply? The FSP PSU says it has a 20+4 pin, and the mobo says 24 pin. Will this work?

The only difference is the 20+4 psu has a total of 24 pins for the 24 pin motherboard, but the extra 4 pins can detach so that it can be used on a 20 pin motherboard

Personally I'd get an X1800XT rather than the 7900GT, cos it can do HDR and AA together and is similar price and performance. It also runs Oblivion very nicely indeed.

However, I do own an X1800XT, so I must confess to a tiny bit of bias :)

I'm running an eVGA 7800GT on it and it runs fine! if you don't trust it then go for another one, i was looking around newegg and lots of the SLi PSUs that i found didn't even have 26A
