I've recently been doing some video editing and found out that I need more processor (also played FEAR, Oblivion and the such on my 1.6) you can see my current system on my sig. Play some games, but not much anymore. Looking for low cost as my mom is footing the bill (yes will be the new family computer). I'm looking at these parts, thanks for looking:)

[/code]

Intel Pentium D 930-$179

MSI 955X Platinum-$160 ($140 after rebate)

Corsair TWIN2X-5400C4 1GB DDR2 675-$98

ATi Radeon X300 PCI-e16-free

Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C sataii-$84

Raidmax Scorpio 868 ATX case w/420w PSU-$57

420w Generic PSU-included with case

Microsoft Windows XP Home-$90

total: $668 (zipzoomfly.com ships for free)

So what do you people think? Looking to keep cost around 700. Your input is appreciated.

i meant that i finished playing FEAR and Oblivion on my P4 1.6 system

there's not much that interests me right now, save HL2 Episode One, which is very fun, and costs only $15

Pretty much all games will play like crap on that X300. Even your 9800Pro is a better card than that X300 POS. This 7300GT will beat the crap out of the X300. Here's a review of a 7300GT using GDDR3 memory, and it performs amazingly well for such a cheap card. However, I haven't been able to find that card on newegg.

Don't use the generic PSU that comes with the case; those are usually crap. Get a good PSU made by Antec, Thermaltake, etc. You also might want to try to find a cheaper mobo.

$90 for around 3150 marks is pretty good (that inno3D was 100 mhz clocked higher and got 3643)

i thinking of changing mobo to Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G to save $40

though only the latest models are compatible with the 930 without a bios update i hear

i see that the 7300 GT is indeed faster than the X300, though i was thinking the graphics later when games that I liked came out (or when i get the funds)
i'll keep the 7300 GT in mind

i thought the psu was trashy, but i have a friend who built a Pentium 930 system with the same psu and it hasn't failed him yet

would it be better if i used a 350w PSU taken from a friend's Prescott Dimension 8400?

Yes the X300 is crappola, but look at the price. I think that's why he is trying to incorporate it into a system. He could sell the x300 for a "few" bucks maybe, and put that towards something stronger.
