I'm sure there's probably a more appropriate place to ask this question but I trust my fellow gamer's knowledge on this subject so here goes. Is there going to be a major difference if I upgrade from my current Sony 17" LCD to a 20.1"? I'm sure there will be some difference since the max resolution increases. If so, are there any recommendations? I was looking at one on Newegg that is listed below:
Another question on this is that I notice this has a contrast ratio of 600:1 while it seems as the price of the monitors increase so does the contrast ratio. Is contrast ratio a major factor that I should be concerned with? Thanks in advance for any help.
A quick edit. I just wanted to make sure all important info was listed. I have a HIS X1900XT video card so I will be able to take advantage of any resolution increases.

Depends how old your sony is. If its 2 or more years older then yes, there will be a difference due to significant improvements in response times, however, you should look for reviews and specifically for any complaints of "ghosting" (old image left due to slow response rates) or artificacts
Yes, you should be very concerned about contrast ratio. The higher the better. Higher contrast ratios deal with black levels better.
Of utmost concern for gaming with a LCD is response rate. The model your looking at advertises a response rate of 8ms. In reality it will probably give 12-16ms. Good enough for gaming
The particular model your looking at is a wide screen. Thats a 16:9 width to hieght ratio. Most games are programed to use standard ration of 4:3. To get a normal picture you with have to:
1) patch the game for wide screen (if there is a patch for that particular game)
2) live with "black bars" at the side of the screen
or
you can strech the game to fill the width of the sceen, but this obviously distorts the graphics (sorry)
