CPU Temperatures

Hi guys,

I'm using AMD X2 (939) 4400+ with Sapphire PC-A9RD580 motherboard + a Sapphire X1900XT.

My motherboard sensors reports (read from BIOS),

CPU VRM Temperature - 45 C
AMD K8 Temperature - 33 C
Ambient temperature - 46 C

So my questions are..
1. Why is the VRM temperature so high ? Is it OK for this CPU ?
2. The K8 temperature is the actual CPU temp, am I right ?
3. What do you think about the ambient temp ? (its pretty hot here)

Thanks for any help.

More about : cpu temperatures

Well your CPU temps seen more than ok my INTEL is normally idle at 58 so you wont be melting down any time soon. The only thing that seems high is your Ambience. My ambience actually hit 70 last month but yours is still high. A bit of heatsink paste on the northbridge heatsink helped drop it down to 31 c so i would check if your northbridge is ok. It may have a rubbish heatsink. If this temp droms you may also notice a significant drop of about 3c in everything else.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, the ambient on my intel rig (2.4 GHz Northwood) is around 33 C.
I'll see what I can do about the Northbridge.

But how do I take off the default Northbridge heatsink ?

Given that 45C is easy to hold with your hand - why would you think this might be a problem? Good Lord, I'm stunned.

The golden rule is this: IF IT IS TOO HOT TO TOUCH. IT IS TOO HOT.

VRMs run hot but can take a lot of heat since those are very simple components, depending on the design of your motherboard, you can stick ramsinks on them to cool them down if you intend to overclock.
