7600 GT sli VS 7900 GT

Im currently in the process of building a computer and have decided on the spec, however the graphics card seems to be quite hard to decide upon

AMD 4400+ X2
1Gig DDR1 RAM (2x512)
Asus A8N-SLI
520W Atrix PSU
250GB SATA2 Hard drive

2x256 7600 GT or 1x 256 7900 GT

The price diffrence between the 7900GT and 2 7600 GT is about £40 ($90-$100) I would like to know which of the 2 options would be best for running games in a maximum of 1024x748 Resolution. (Mostly Half-life 2 and other source engine mods) Also would the RAM suffice for Low/Medium graphics settings and how would it perform under higher settings. I've looked at a few articles and i am still having trouble decideing on which GPU setup will be best.

Get the 7900GT; you won't receive any benefit from having an SLI system at 1024x768.

Have you thought about a X1800XT or X1900XT for those games :?:

A sinfgle 7900 GT or X1800 XT will beat two 7600 GTs in pretty much every scenario.

Heat: 1 7900GT < 2 7600GT SLI
Power Consumption: 1 7900GT < 2 7600GT SLI

Price of Mobo: Non SLI < SLI (generally speaking)

Thanks for the info guys, only reason i asked was because the SLI m.b came with the processer and ram, so i thought why not take advantage of it, but with the budget im on to build a relatively mid-high end PC i need to know what areas i should focus the money on, and with the knowledge i now have i can afford to upgrade a few diffrent things.

As for the ATI cards, i looked at some prices for them in the UK and they seem to be a little high although they are nice cards, and a did start with an x1600 PRO, (2 seconds research told me anything else would be better ) I found that Nvidia cards were better for the price.

Exactly. At 1024x768 two 7600s will perform about as one 7600. 7900GT is a much better choice.
