.... tell the differance in memory by the TIMINGS?

for example...

2-3-3-6 Corsair XMS Memory NewEgg 2 CAS Memory LINK

vs.

3-3-3-8 Corsair XMS Memory NewEgg 3 CAS Memory Link

its cheaper.. but will I notice a differance at all? i play games and play music and thats about it.

i mean could i just overclock the CAS 3 memory to 2-3-3-6?

let me know guys thanks!!

This is very little difference but there is a difference. Maybe 4 fps in a 70fps application.

You cannot overclock memory to get tighter timings. You may get lucky and have memory that was under estimated but it's more than likely your memory only just runs at those timings and their default speed.

In general, I tend to recommend people to get the cheaper RAM (but 2 GB of it) rather than going for really fast expensive RAM. However, if you find RAM timings with that much of a difference for only $20 either way then I say go for the tighter RAM. So yes, I would recommend you get the better RAM.

By the way, I have that corsair xms 2-3-3-6 platinum RAM so maybe I'm a little biased.

yeah i had the same memory as you... but the 2x512mb = 1gb sticks...

I think I will be getting the TWIN2048-3200c2pt for my friends computer, I trust CORSAIR XMS memory a lot more than other sticks.

2-3-3-6 .. can not go wrong with that.

If your overclock, lower timings will be useful for you. It'll help you OC. If you don't OC, you won't see a difference in most cases.

Aye. And in my experience, Corsair's XMS DDR(1) line doesn't overclock quite as well as OCZ, Mushkin, and Patriot. That's just what I've seen though, your (and other peoples') experience could be quite different.

yeah CORSAIR underclocks their memory on purpose so that you can get maximum compatability.... you just have to change it in your bios.. no biggie..

ok TWIN2048-3200C2PT 2-3-3-6 is what I will get.

of course is better to have lower CAS (collumn address strobe).....and better clock-able..........the other timings are not as important (when dealing with performance) but it won`t hurt to try a top performance setting in bios (works with gigabyte mobos)............
