Have I said something wrong?

May I please try again with questions I asked a couple of days ago. I have
edited them a bit.

Now that I have upgraded my system, I am trying to get the best settings,
and I have two queries.

1. When taxiing, mesh fences and tree leaves dance about/flicker but settle
down again when I stop. When I rev up, with parking brakes on, the
flickering starts again. Thinking that sound may have been affecting the
picture, I set sound quality low but it made no difference. Could sound be
affecting the graphics? Is there anything I can do that might help?

2. Should any particular item (or items) have priority when I
adjust sliders for texture quality, terrain mesh complexity, terrain texture
size, autogen density, scenery complexity, effects detail? I am not asking
what the settings should be. I know I need to try different settings, but
is there a pecking order? Is it better to start low and work up, or start
with all to the right and work down?

I am running FS2002 with Motherboard AMD S939, AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1024 MB
RAM, Radeon RX300SE 128 MB.

Start low and work your way up until you hit a level of performance
that bugs you. Then back off a little. Also, decide for yourself what's
important to you. Some people like looking at clouds, and will
sacrifice ground detail. Others -- me -- get bugged by blurry ground
textures, and will cut back on other things to make them sharp.

Things that make a big difference fast: high AI percentage, 3d cloud
percentage (or cloud coverage), terrain resolution. Here's a tip on
terrain: 96 looks just as good as 100 and gives better performance.

As for saying something wrong: not that I've noticed. It's likely that
everyone waited for something else to say something, and as a result
your initial query just fell to the bottom of the "pile." Welcome to
the forum!

For #1 what are your AA and AF settings in the video drivers? This is
what you need to investigate and try to reduce shimmering
(Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering)

#2: you will have to test for yourself to find the settings that
satisfy both your preferences and your system capabilities... :)

Thanks. Flying with the new system is so smooth compared with the old one
with scenery better. One particular bonus is that I can use my local
(addon) airport at Warnervale, NSW. But it was also one instance that
showed up the flickering of the trees and fences.

I get the same thing with some of my add-on airports. I think it's to do
with the priorities that get assigned to the various scenery layers. Start
the sim, go in to Scenery options, and move your add-on airport to the top
of the list and see if that helps.
