My HP 7660 having worked fine for months now takes about 25 minutes to
produce a single page of normal text. I am writing this while watching it
struggle through a sample page - which is now at 15 minutes and we are still
on the first inch of output.

I am 99% sure it is not a computer problem. Firstly because I have updated
everything, re-installed old drivers, rolled back using system restore -
basically tried everything. Secondly because it shows the same fault trying
to print a test page when not even connected to my computer.

Any ideas? I am completely stumped. It is almost as if it can only store a
couple of bytes of data at a time - can the printer's own cache be corrupt?

Thanks in advance.

Don

How is the host computer's free HD space? When printing, what does task
manager show about CPU load? It sounds more like a RAM/page file/HD
issue on the host like in the olden days with WFW 3.11 on a bound up
computer. What is the host operating system?

If the printer makes a swath, then pauses 10-15 seconds before taking the next
swath then you probably have a defective cartridge. You might try removing one
cartridge, then the other to find out which is causing the problem. Check the
ink level to make sure one of the cartridges is not empty. If not, then check
the cartridge warranty as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc [...] =bua02014.
If the problem cartridge is still within its two year warranty period contact
your dealer or HP for a replacement.
