500 dollar gaming rig This was a toms article back in october, but it illustrates the basic idea. There are others on the net like this or this Pentium D805 machine The first two builds are nearly a year old so the prices have come down on some parts and new platforms have come to light.

Do you need EVERYTHING to make a system or are you stripping parts from one, if so, what have you got to work with? What would you optimally want it to be BETTER at? 700us will not buy a screaming demon but performance is relative to your needs if you buy smart. A gamer would focus on a mid-level graphics card.. a video editor would want to focus more on ram and processor and a good entry level gpu and high capacity hard drives, a 3-d engineering comp needs all of that and but a different type of graphics solution.. a microsoft word speciallist needs basically no extra Graphics other than an integrated solution and a nice printer.
