Many pocket pcs, including mine, advertise that they are bluetooth and
wireless 802.11b enabled, yet I see so many adapters for these features. I
tried to connect to my home wireless 802.11b network with my new pocket pc
and was unable to. There was no feature in the software to change the
channel, encryption, or ssid which I figure is standard stuff when trying to
connect to a wireless network. What is the deal? Do I need to buy an adapter
or do I just need to buy some network connecting software? Thanks.

What PocketPC?
With my iPAQ 5555 you need to turn ON the 802.11b wireless radio before you can access the wireless
configuration windows (Wireless Zero Configuration or WZC). Here is a document from HP that may help
you if you have specific HP model iPAQs...
Note that unless the wireless access point is configured to NOT broadcast the SSID, then the WZC
will automatically find the access point. If the SSID broadcast is cloaked then you also need to
manually configure that. Generally the channel is configured on the access point also and can not be
selected on the PocketPC. That may, however, not be true if you use a third-party add-on card with
its own card manager software.
Encryption keys, WEP or WPA, are configured on both the access point and the PocketPC and must
match...FYI here is an example of how I have my iPAQ 5555 configured to use WPA-PSK (TKIP) with a
VERY LONG RANDOM key...

Others, with far more knowledge than I, will doubtless point you in the
right direction. Here are a couple of thoughts
1.Always give details of your hardware and software versions, the are
many types of unit out there.
2.Have you applied all the latest updates and patches to the unit? I had
no success at all with an iPAQ 5550 until I upgraded the OS
