Is there a CPU chart/guide on a list of all the AMD/Intel CPU's and what the average to best overclock is on each one? I found this but it's kind of outdated http://www.sysopt.com/systemdb/overclock/cpus.php/AMD

The reason I ask is most likely I will be buying a new system on July 24 when the AMD prices drop after conroe is released and I want to try and save money on buying a x2 4800+ or a x2 5000+ and maybe get something slower but more overclockable.

my suggestion would be to get a core 2 duo (conroe) processor since preliminary tests have shown that they are highly overclockable since they produce very little heat and demand little power compared to todays processors. Most of the conroe processors will be cheaper and perform better than the two amd processors you mentioned.

as for the cpu chart here is one provide by THG it doesn't include am2 processors as they are soo knew but if you want a comparision between an intel core 2 duo (conroe) vs an AMD FX-62, which is AMDs top of the line processor, you can check that out here

the FX-62, 4800+ and 5000+ most likely will not be the best overclockers since they are already near or at the top of line for AMDs line of processors

vs.

intels core 2 duo clocked at 2.66 ghz, like the one that beat the FX-62 in the comparision, has been reaching 3.0 GHz or more on air fairly easily, these of course are preliminary results but they should not just be ignored..

Very helpful info so far and I will take a look at the conroe for sure as long as it's affordable. The other question I guess I should ask is I know AM2 needs ddr2 can it also use ddr? Also does Conroe use ddr or ddr2? I'm guessing ddr2 will be a lot more expensive than ddr and I would love to have more RAM than faster RAM.

the new AM2 socket will require DDR2 which is more expensive, it is getting cheaper by the month almost since it is becoming more mainstream, even more so now that AMD is switching to it which means there will be more products,

Conroe along with its 975 socket will use DDR2 ram also
, (note that the sweet spot for conroe is like 667, i think its 800 for the AM2, conroe could also use 800 but there is no performance gain

DDR2 ram is not alot more expensive but it is a little more it might be like $30-$40 unless you get cheap DDR2

a good set of overclockable DDR2-800 ram from Corsair XMS2 would go for $270 you can definitely get other stuff for cheaper and still oc though for $230

Ya I've been doing a lot of looking and I'm kinda leaning towards conroe now. I just hope the motherboards Rev1 boards are ok

Just to reinforce:

DDR has 184-pins, DD2 has 240-Pins; so they are physically imcompatible as well.

Rev1 motherboards are all right, but I prefer the Rev2/3 as most bugs are cleared up by then...
