I have a GA-K8NSC-939 motherboard (nForce 3 250GB Chipset) and I was wondering if I could drop an X2 processor in there without any problems.

According to both the Gigabyte website and NewEgg, the board only supports Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64/Sempron processors, hence my hesitation. Both also list HT frequency at 800 MHz when the X2 runs at 1000 MHz. I had assumed that the X2 would work without problems, but the website brings this into question.

From the list that I've found I don't think it'll work. Here's the link, if they've updated it since I looked at it the X2 might be on there.

http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_List.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=1881&ProductName=GA-K8NSC-939
If I got the model wrong (which I don't see why I could have since I copied and pasted) Let me know or you can just look around the giga-byte website...ooh that rhymes. Anyways, happy computing and good luck!

Well if that's an accurate list of supported CPU's, then I'm good to go for an X2 :)

July 24th isn't it? I've never been particularly patient so I'll probly end up waiting a week before I cave in and then just splurge on it anyway

If you don't mind spending $100+ more for the same CPU, than in a months time....I'll take some of that money off your hands. Donations gladly accepted.

I had already found the X2 3800+ on eBay for$ 230. Given that the cheapest on pricewatch.com is nearly 300, that's already a 25% price drop. I don't think I can justify waiting 5 more week on an additional 40 bucks lol

I have itchy pockets too -- I am looking out for the Core 2 Duo ATI RS600 chipset MB to buy, slap in a cheapo CPU (I actually ahve a spare CPU lying around) until Core 2 ships. I am anxious for the E6600, better than FX-62 performance for 350 bucks.

:)

Jack
I am looking after the same too, but I will buy it latter in september. Do you think that the prices will be lowered more by that time?

Both AMD and Intel will be slashing price in late July with the introduction of the Core 2 Duo Processors. Any time after than and you're golden. I just dont know that I can wait that long

Both options are incredibly tempting, that 4600+ sounds really good 8O I'd have to stick with the Athlon though because I DEFINITELY can't afford to upgrade the motherboard and GPU as well. (I suppose technically I could, but if I dont set a limit somewhere, I may as well be buying a car with the money I'd spend)

to see how well it meshes with AVIO

You mean AVIVO?

I really want to get x1600 with HDMI or whatever its 80nm successor is and have it run to my to amp. That'd be cool because I can later on upgrade the DVD drive to HDDVD or Bluray and I dont have to worry about ICT.

It'll be good once it all comes together.

I don't have much faith in the 965's abilities to do H.264. Thats the other good thing about the x1600 is the H.264 decoding. I got a 6800 ultra and H.264 acceleration is broken on it ( so typical) and my 3000 and 3500 don't handle H.264 too well.

Theres some pretty nifty filters you can get but I think they won't be as needed with HDDVD or Blu-ray.

Ya, its probably done by the cpu instead.

Nice, nice. I want to get two x1700's, have one do HDMI and use the other for my monitor and get get a solid increase from crossfire.

I've pretty impressed with purevideo (apart from the broken aspects) and AVIVO is even better so that'll be nice.

I haven't had to much of an issue....

Could you elaborate?

Ah I see.

I guess you're talking about the transcoder thing or whatever the hell its called. Hows that? I read the initial reviews and some people were impressed and some were not. Haven't read anything since.

I downloaded the videos, the Toy Shop was very impressive whilst the assassin demo was ok. I was more impressed with the fact that they ported it (assassin demo) to the 360 in about two weeks.

The crowd demo imo is the most impressive they've done, I hope they do a sequel.

Ya it'll work. Check the mobos makers site for cpu support.

Edit: May need a bios update.

I got an Asus A8V Deluxe and I'm thinking about replacing my 3200+ with a X2 3800+. Is a bios update easy? Do I need to do it before or after dropping in the X3800+?
