How to save ink?

I am using a HP690C Deskjet. My printer has 2 print catridges. One being a black colour catridge the other is a colour one. I use black ink to print my documents most of the time. What option should I choose so that the printers uses the black catridge only and not mixing colours from the colour catridge?

If you want your prints in black, I think there should be an option in your printer's software to specify black and white printing.

If it's black text it will only use the black cartridge.

my brother has a lexmark, (z12) and you can only use one cartige at one time, (color or black)

he has only the color cartige, and it prints black text.

when all 3 colors are mixed, you get black.
..usually.

Why not buy a black cartridge and swap the colour one out for the black cartridge when he wants just black text? It'd be more cost-efficient.

he is saving money by "not" buying the black cartige...

you see, he bought this printer brand new for $30 (on sale), it came with one color cartige.
he doesnt want to spend another $30 for a color cartige.

...well untill at least he runs out,

but then he could buy another printer with a color cartige for the same $30,
lol.

For that piece of plastic and metal, maybe $30 is worth it. Keep in mind, though, that many printers don't ship with full cartridges.

Actualy he got that printer from Target, a local store here.

and since that time, last week another color printer was available there for $30.... it was an Apollo...by hp.

I got this printer, and in one word, its junk.
Loud, Ugly, and print quality is bad, very bad.

This $30 Apollo made the $30 Lexmark look really good.

I should of bought the lexmark while it was there.
As for now, I had returned the Apollo, and waiting for another deal.
