I am currently having a problem with my PC that has started in the last couple weeks. It doesnt happen everytime when i start my computer up, Windows loads like normal and then once everything is loaded the hard drive shuts downs for just a seconds as if the power was interupted or something. I can still see windows its just frozen. Then i restart my computer and sometimes it does it again but others it doesnt. Once i get the comp up i am fine and run just as fast as ever(fresh install) until i restart my computer again.

My hard drive is brand new less than 4-5 months old. Its a western digital 120gb 7200rpm Hard drive. My complete specs are as follows:

Asus a7n8x deluxe
Barton 2500+ (not oced atm)
ati x850xt
1gb (512x2) dual channel ram
Antec 430 Power supply(old)
Sound blaster audigy gamer.

If it matters i also have a cd/cdrw and dvd rom drive (both very old)

I was wondering if this is due to my power supply being old or my hard drive going bad. If i find out it is my hard drive ill be pissed. Even though i swear i stored my receipts and stuff in the filing cabinet i can't find them :(

It's difficult to say, but in all likelyhood, it is NOT the power supply. That supply is plenty for that machine. Besides, you aren't pulling that much power when you start it up, so if it were power supply related you'd likely have more problems when you are using the machine and putting it under load than when it is just booting up.

Get all the latest drivers for everything?

Electrolytic capacitor aging. When used over extended period of time (1+ years) as well as 24/7 PSU will start loosing its initial wattage. Recommended to add an additional 20% if you plan to keep your PSU for 1+ years (25-30% for 24/7 and 1+ years).

This is from http://www.extreme.outervision.com/, which helps calculate how much power you need. Very comprehensive.

A potential problem is that nVidia chipsets have special nVidia IDE drivers that can be installed. I've heard about these causing issues so I no longer install them on nVidia based boards... That in mind, I don't recall ever seeing an uninstaller :(
