Im goign to be upgrading to an X1900 Xt in around 3 weeks, and im wondering what type of heatsync I should get, im really considering the Zalman VF900 CU, but im wondering if any one else has tried this heatsync and how good it is/how much better it is then stock cooling. Also if there are better gpu heatsyncs availaible. Im not looking to overclock much, id just like to keep the temps down below 70 degrees if possible.

I use an Arctic Freezer Accelro X2 cooler on my Sapphire X1900XTX and it does great anywhere from 45 - 55 degrees C Idle (after being on load) 38 degrees C at first bootup with Case completly closed, and anywhere from 75 - 85 degrees C during load depending on how long being used. This is all with my OC of (668mhz/792mhz)!

P.S. It is also very quiet, easy to install and u can get it cheap for around $30!

I 2nd the IceQ3 version. I have one and it's completely silent. My PSU fan is louder than my graphics card, and I have a pretty silent PSU. The price just went down on Newegg so you should be able to find it at a pretty reasonable price.

Good luck.

A 1900XT in a well ventilated case might not require an aftermarket cooler. With a single Gigabyte 1900XT at stock clock, I saw ~mid 40s at idle and up to low 60s under 3DM06 peak load. With an XFire setup, the temps went up about five to ten degrees under load.

On the older cards like in your case the 6800gt it was the same, but on this one it is not.

If you look at the pics of the accelro x2 u will notice a big difference in the design of the cool. The cooler that is on the HIS Iceq is much more like the older models.

yup. thats what the stock cooler was. 47*C idle. stuck a VF-900 on it. Went to 44*C.

I like the Sytrin KuFormula VF1 Plus: http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/04/14/is_the_kuformula_vf1_plus_the_formula_for_graphics_cooling_uk/ but it's a right buggar to get hold of if you live in the uk

Any change to the case temp and/or CPU temp due to exhausting the GPU heat inside instead of out?
