So a little while back, I got a new Seagate 160GB harddisk to replace an old 80GB Maxtor that I've had forever. Everything has been working perfectly, except that my Seagate drive will not boot unless my old Maxtor drive is in the Master position while the Seagate is in the slave position. I can boot off either drive when they are in this position, but if I disconnect the Maxtor from the power and put the Seagate in the Master position, my computer boots but then says it can't find a boot disk.
Both hard drives are in the cable select setting and they both seem to be working fine other than the boot problem. I've just been working with my main drive in Slave position for a couple months. But I'm worried that my Maxtor will fail and I won't be able to boot my computer at all.
All I can think of is that my Maxtor was in the Master position when I installed Windows XP on my new Seagate and ever since then its been "dependent" on the other drive being in place.
I figure it might have something to do with the boot.ini but I'm not entirely what I should do to make it work.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
VexingWeevil
