wat graphics card would be best for the next good bunch of games like crysis and unreal tournament 2007(cant wait for ut2007!!!)
when will the new cards from nvidia/ati be released?
will 7900gtx's or x1900xt/xtx be enough?
will 7600gt's be enough for 1024x768 resolutions at max quality?

More about : gpu crysis ut2007

the ones out today will be enough to run those games on medium graphics with low framerates. So basically, the ones out right now are a waste of money. If a 7900 gtx runs outsside environments in Oblivion with only 36 fps on high settings, then just imagine crysis..my guess would be 10 fps on high settings with the cards out now. I feel bad for the people who wasted their money on these " NEXT GEN CARDS!" ..what a scam.

FALL '06, and that's when you should be considering cards for those games, and even then no one will know what's best for them until they ship or at least demo.

2 x1900xtx Ran Crysis pretty good, but it was on DX 9.0

I have to admit that I am not much of a gamer. However, I would build a fully new system just to play UT2k7.

I Love the net play for 2k4. And, 2k7 promises to be better.

I second the I can't wait!!

UT is the only game that I will stop to play whenever I get a chance!
June 21, 2006 4:53:24 PM

same here,i have a 7800gt im gunna hold on and see how it handles ut2k7,if its unbearable i will upgrade to a dx10 card when they come out,but then again the dx10 may cost a bomb so i will wait to see their costs.seems to me hardware is just one long waiting game if you want a good price for performance

Wait for direct X10 cards to come out...

The game wont be released for a couple of years. By then most gamers will have Vista and Direct x 10 cards.

Wait...

Do I hear a call for a THG clan in UT2kX??

I don't join Clans, it's always a spur of the moment thing for me, always playin' pick-up.

But we did have a few THGC games when UT2K4 first came out, and when the demo came out, and they were pretty good.

I'm sure there's enough of us here to get a few good games goin' and I'm also sure there's some who'd make a clan and be quite active.

EDIT: I'm not against clans (just some clansmen), it's that personally my gaming schedule is always out of whack (haven't played Oblivion in almost a week, been editing and playing with/tweaking my PSP), so no way to dedicate to a group without ending up the n00b/tag-along in no time.
June 21, 2006 9:55:38 PM

Understand completely,

You know that there are casual clans out there... And I know what you mean about some members of diff clans.

I got perma banned from the viper HOP server because on onslaught I ended up one on one with viper and I killed him....

A few seconds later I was kicked and not allowed back! Go figure?

I doubt Crysis won't need super duper horsepower. Perhaps not the people that hang out here, but in the greater gaming universe of millions of gamers, very few people have something like a x1900, and fewer yet have SLI or Crossfire. Crytek will be wanting to sell as many copies as they can, so I think I'm safe in assuming that anything over a X1600/6800 will get playable frame rates. Not at high rez or max settings but it will work enough to enjoy the game. Tons of people will be upgrading systems or at least GPU's next year anyway, and they know that too.
June 22, 2006 3:50:34 AM

When Farcry came out the top of the line cards ie. radeon 9700-9800 could play it at what 30fps at 1024x768?
Then the next gen came along and blew those away with everything max at 1280x1024 being playable.

the current generation won't be enjoyable at max settings unless you have two x1900xt's in crossfire...
As LordBelial said look at what oblivion does to current cards my guess would be expect about the same fps if not worse in crysis.

Then the next generation of cards will come and slaughter the x1900's and 7900s performance as always happens with technology.

That's likely, but Oblivion is a little unnecessarily hoggish (no early Z-cull calculates whole scene even non-visible), but I would say that Crysis will be worse if if it is far more efficient.

The thing to look for is the efficiencies, DX10 in addition to the Unified design has the potential to be wickedly efficient in the right hands. So we could see mid range easily beatin not only single GTX/XT, but even Xfire&SLi. Of course we won't know until they arrive, and the games ship/test. So until then I play Pinball on my PSP and Oblivion on the Laptop. 8)
June 22, 2006 8:13:40 AM

Notwithstanding the fact that one will require Vista to run DX10 as well as a DX10 graphics card.

i wonder if the game has a directx 9.0 mode?
if it does have it then those people with a X1900XTX or 7900GTX can play it fairly good.

7900gtx, x1900xt, or x1800xt 512mb, they will run good, 7600 wont run ut2007 at full, im prolly gonna be getting a x1800xt 512mb or an x1900xt, cuz the 7900 has glitches, it sometimes mayb have artifacts

GAH stop posting you noob. You start a thread asking what's the difference between the 7800gtx and the 7900gt then think you know the answer to this question...

This wasn't always the case... we've just gotten spoiled in the last few generations (at least with GPUs).

What do you think they are running crysis on at the E3....they are running crysis on an x1900 xt. And the crytek developers have stated that it will run fine on mid range computers. By the time the game comes out the code will be more optimised. I have full faith in crytek, they will pull through if any dev will. About unreal 3 who knows, their code is terribly unoptimised all of the time, epic sucks so does their engine, cryengine 2 rips it to pieces.

gah noob, go read reviews about hte 7900's
June 25, 2006 11:08:07 AM

crysis was runnig on 2 X1900XT in crossfire mode at E3.
unreal 2007 does look great but i agree it doesnt beat crysis.[/quote]

in my opinion the textures look to sharp.

huh? were have you read that the 7900s have glitches.the EVGA 7900 signiture edition completely outdoes a X1800XT512.dont belive me see what firingsquad says:7900GT roundup
June 25, 2006 1:12:56 PM

I'm afraid you are mistaken, crysis will run on max quality using a single x1900xtx, which is what the demos have been showcased on. So buy a single x1900xt/x now and you'll be fine for crysis!
June 25, 2006 1:51:54 PM

Nah it is DX10, but it'll run perfectly well on DX9 cards, just without the DX10 effects.

I also heard somewhere that the x1900 is compatible with the DX10 API or something? Not too sure on that, i'll do some research and get back to you guys later.
June 25, 2006 3:25:08 PM

You guys do know that theres also a CPU in a PC....soooo it means that Crysis and Ut2007 will support multi-core processors which means the more there is the more the graphics cards will show potential...besides i would wait for the new DX10 cards since DX10 is said to have 6 - 8 times better performance than any other API before it, and in turn means not only can you play the games with mid range graphics cards on high but this will cause the people who turned to console because of the "high" price of PC to go to the true gaming platform :p .

Remember AMD and Intel will make Quad Core CPU's in 2007 so no one worry about how the graphics cards performe.

As for Crysis....it will in my opinion dominate Ut2007, why because UT has been the same without changing significently, yet Crysis have the best graphics to date on any platform, great gameplay from what i seen, and some really cool ideas that would be very fun in multiplayer. Ut is fun but ive played the samething over and over again with every sequal, and the explosions in it look SOOO unrealistic, if you compare to crysis you will see the difference....BIG difference.

It's both DX9 and DX10.

It will likely have the primary Vista only DX10 path, and 4 DX9 fallback paths (in 2 groups): DX9L (DX9 under Vista) SM3.0 & DX9L-SM2.0 ; then XP/Win2K version of DX9-SM3.0, and DX9-SM2.0.

DX10 path will will have all the coolest/latest features, the DX9SM3.0 paths will likely look really close, but will not support some effect, and some features, and likely run a little bit slower than the DX10 path, and finally the DX9-SM2.0 path will likely run with more things disabled (likely no HDR) and could even run slower than the DX10 version while running with all extra disabled, but it does depend on what they decide to implement on each, DX10 could be twice as fast doing the same work but they decide to do 3 times the load, so who knows.

Basically the hardware support will likely fall to the following based on market segments support talked about for UT2K7 which is likely totarget the same for Crysis;

DX10: R6xx/G8x

DX9-S3: GF6800-GF7950+ & X1600-X1900+ (X1300 will likely play but like low end

DX9-S2: GF6100-GF6600+ & R9500-X850+ (with the X1300-1400 here IMO)

Also based on recent SM2.0 games it's doubtful the FX series will play this without tweaks or sacrifices, and who knows if it's worth the effort for FX5900 users [still crap/slow on FX5600-5700 with tweaks].

Likely the integrated GF6100, X200, and low ebd GF6200 and X300 will be too slow to be playable even @ DX9-SM2.0, but we'll see. Probably 2 X300 or GF6200 in SLi/Xfire would be more playable.

Also likely the plain R9500/9600 will struggle somewhat at the low level, The R9600P/9500Pro/X600 may even not be fast enough. I'd consider the GF6600 and R9800/X700 as the minimum for SM2.0 support depending on how optimized they make it.

Just to clarify, he's mistaken about the 'single' X1900XT.

But it (single X1900) should handle Crysis 'ok' in it's DX9-SM3.0 mode that was demoed, just unlikely to be 'maxed' out on a single card, and maybe even an Xfire/SLi setup.

Also remember it's very early in the developent stage so they may still have optimizing left to do.

Thanks man. I'm actually excited about Crysis, not as much as Oblivion, but more so than FartCry after the Demo (which itself was just astounding visually).

PS, I'm finally going to get a chance to play Oblivion on my PC tonight (after going to see CLick), been playing Pinball and Untold legends on my PSP on the way to work (found lugging the Laptop too much during my early morning rush hour trips nowadays [no room]).
