I'm thinking of upgrading my amd 3500 venice 939 1ghz bus but I wasn't sure what a worthwhile upgrade would be. I've used intels up until I built this computer so there still isn't alot I know about AMDs. Anyway, I'm not sure what to think with these clock speeds. The 3800 only has a 200 mhz lead over my 3500, and I don't know what the opteron must have that makes it so special with a 1.8 mhz clock speed. If neither of these are going to give me a noticeable boost in gaming performance, what will? I appreciate any input.

if it were me, and it was a month ago. I would get a low end Opteron Dual Core (165) and OC it to around 2.4 GHZ. thats what i did and i won't go back. :D

it takes me about 3 hrs to encode and mux 2 hrs of DV quality video into an x.264/H.264 format :D
