Whats the more effective set up?

Getting two 7900 GT's with 256mb each and slapping them in SLI will run me close to $550. Getting a 7900 GTX with 512mb of ram will run me the same and I will probably not add in a second card.

This is either for a Socket AM2, nforce 590 Asus, amd 4000+ set up or a Pentium D 930, Asus Nforce 4 Intel set up.


I'm looking for reliability and for atleast 3 - 5 years to serve me. This computer is mainly for all my old XP software and games that could potentially not work with Vista... because my next main PC will be Vista

Any ideas or help is appreciated.

If you're going to play at 1600x1200 resloution, then SLI is the way to go. If not, a single 7900GTX or X1900XT are better options.

My normal playing resolution now is 1280 x 1024... until I get a widescreen that is.

Would sli set up be better for Widescreen resolution then?

Yea, SLI would be better. SLI gives bigger benefits at higher resolutions.
