I am having problems trying to use the basic backup program that XP has.
It doesn't recognize my CD-RW drive and also promts me by saying " the
backup file could not be used. Please ensure it is a valid path and you have
sufficient access. On My Computer on the desktop XP does recognize the CD-RW
drive. I know that i am doing everything correctly.Any help please. Thank
You

Hi,

The answer is surprisingly simple: The included backup program does not
write to CDR media. You will have to backup to tape, hard drive, or network
drive. You can then copy the backup file to CDR, but you cannot do it
directly.

If you want to back up to cd or dvd, investigate BackUp My PC or Retrospect.
They are not free programs, but back ups are worth buying a program for.

Did you first create a folder on the CD-RW? - RM

Apparently you can -but you need to have EasyCD Creator or Nero installed,
and the CD must be a CDRW that is formatted for packet writing.

Hi Gordon,

If the drive can be seen in that fashion then yes. However, most using one
of those programs probably won't be using ntbackup as the main backup
utility.
