Alright people,

I've just bought a second hand DFI Ultra NFII socket A motherboard to tide me over til I've robbed a bank to fund a new PC, but I'm having problems I need help with.

First the spec I'm using:

Athlon XP 3000+
Hercules Ati 9800XT 256mb
2 x 512 generic ram (ddr400)
Maxtor 300 gig pata (with partition)HDD 16mb buffer
Liteon DVD Rewriter 16x
X-Fi extreme music sound card
Netgear wireless Pci card

Whenever I try to install windows I always get a blue BSOD at least once before it finishes installing, it normally completes the install on the second go. sometimes it blue screens when I am using killdisk to erase the HDD.

Then when I tried to install SP2 it restarted half way through and then spent about 10 minutes trying to restore default settings, after which it loaded back into windows and asked me to uninstall SP2 because the installation was interrupted so I did and then reinstalled SP2 no probs but then the Ati graphics driver wouldnt install so I reinstalled windows and after a few more blue screens and windows is installed, SP2 installation causes another restart but now it wont load into desktop at all.

I reinstalled windows a 3rd time but havent installed SP2 and all seems fine for now plus the Ati driver installs ok without SP2.

The blue screen messages I got were about memory management(Pysical memory dump or something) & another said something about making sure no previous drivers are installed etc.

I've tried installing windows with the minimum amount of hardware but still no joy.

Please help before I smash the c**t up.

Cheeers.

Are you running the memory at DDR400? I've found NF2 boards are quite sensitive to DDR400 memory speeds, so one thing to try is to slow your RAM down to DDR333 and see if that helps. Also, if you haven't already done so, I'd clear the BIOS with the jumper and go in fresh and set it up.

DUDe 8) its your ram sppeed :!: This I know of cuz I used to have that exact board, till I robbed a bank for a SLI-Dr Expert mobo :D
Try underclocking your ram at slower speeds, and oc your cpu till you get the desired speeds, just dont hit near the 390 MHZ speeds, you can but better be safe than sorry.
-Hope this helped-

Personaly I think its jsut cause you have shotty RAM. I run ram @ 400 and beyond.
I love that board. I own 2 of them. They do not like cheap componets *most DFI boards don't*
I bet if you put something not generic crap in it will work fine.

On the chance that I'm wrong. try:
Manually setting the correct memory speeds *i mean the CAS RAS TAS blah blah etc etc.
Manualy set the correct vdimm.
Do a Memtest86 test to make sure your modules are ok.

Make sure the PSU isn't giving off bad voltages.

Cheers for the replies lads. When I first put the system together it stops at the first screen (post screen?) and says defaults have been loaded and press delete to enter bios or esc to continue so I went into bios and saw the cpu was clocked at 1700. I aint that clued up about figures but I set the FSB to 166 with default divider and the fsb/ram devider set to auto and reboot and the cpu runs at about 2100Mhz and loads into windows no roblem. I have the the ram in slots 1 & 3 for dual channel mode and the post screen indicades this is true.

Last night I messed about with the settings and set the FSB to 200 and an 11.5 multiplier with the divider at 1:1 and the CPU was clocked at 2300Mhz. I had to knock the CPU voltage up to about 1.65v to stop it restarting and it was ok. Then I tried to change the FSB to 240 with a multiplier of 9.5 and the divider set to 6:5 (I think) so the rem was running at 200Mhz but it would not start or post or anything so I have to reset the Bios and start again.

I dont really know that much about OC'ing so I have not touched the voltages but if any one got any suggestions about what settings to use then that would be great.

Cheers

Cheers fella, got it sorted though. I set the fsb and all other settings to default for my cpu and windows installed with no problems as did SP2. I cant run the system stal when the fsb is at 200,I think this is because my cpu is only meant to run at 166 default, although I have been able to turn up the fsb to about 180 with everthing else on default with no probs. Maybe if I start to turn up voltages and play around with other settings it might be ok at 200.

You get hold of a cheap car and drive around till you find a car that is an exact match e,g same amount of doors, same colour etc. Write down the number plate and get a set made up and fit em to the car. I will get hold of s.......... nah f**k it my mum will kill me plus I'm not allowed too leave the house without adult supervision.
