This is just a tip to anyone that might have an older SB Live!, Audigy, or Audigy 2 card. I've downloaded the Kx Project's drivers as opposed to Creative's and what a tremendous audible difference it makes!! Shame on you Creative! Creative, you should consider these types of features in YOUR drivers or at least explain why you do not.
I'm doing listening tests back and forth trying hard to find the audible difference between this ancient SB Live! (using the Kx Project drivers) and a newish X-Fi XM. It's hard to find the audible difference. There's got to be some audible difference. I just had my ears checked and they're fine!
My SB Live! (with Kx) went from sounding like an SB Live! to sounding A LOT more like my X-Fi. I won't dare say they sound the same because the X-Fi costs so much more (get my point?).
To make this short, if you have an older SB Live!, Audigy or Audigy 2 consider taking a look at the Kx Project's website and consider replacing Creative's drivers with these open source drivers. They actually sound much better and offer functionality that Creative didn't include in their drivers like having dual cards, with the same chipset, running simultaneously . ...consider 14.2 speaker setups if you will... Rediculous, but possible with the Kx drivers.
I can't remember who in this forum tipped me off to the Kx Project last week, but thank you. Step forward and recieve your Twizzler.
