Is there a way to recover a hard disk that is unreadable
after chkdsk was interupted by a power failure. Chkdsk
was recovering files when the power went out and now the
entire disk is showing as unreadable, file by file.

So are you saying you can see the files but they are unreadable? You might
need third party recovery software. Do a search for "recovery software" or
"data recovery software" etc. A popular title is Ontrack which has a demo
here http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/ However the demo will not restore
your data but it will let you see what's there.
