Windows XP Pro freezing on install

Hello All,

I wonder if anyone has an insight into the following
problem? I have tried to install the Windows SP2 update
(from a direct download and also from a CD) but each time
Windows freezes.

The install must nearly be complete but halts when it
gets to the 'restarting processes after install' part.

I tried switching off all irrelevant programs (including
Norton AV and Firewall) and disconnecting all peripherals
etc. I still get the same results each time. I have to
doi a hard re-boot after which the previous settings are
restored.

Bit of a mystery!? Is it a software thing or something
exotic in the BIOS or SATARaid drivers?

Hope someone has a clue... the folks I bought the
computer off (a major UK company) are baffled.

Cheers, Tom

Give it plenty of time. The system does need some time on the reboot before
it shuts down and some additional time when it is starting up again. One of
my systems took about 20 minutes.
