I moved to the US from OZ and it looks as if the US Govt friend my motherboard (it had a 240 volt power supply).

I installed an antec 500w power supply and after no luck paid for the info that the motherboard is fried (local computer chain). I plan to save most of the parts, I had a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro 2 Rev 2 mobo.

I am not into games but do a little very amateur video editing. and powerpoint/ excel . I have 2 hd and 160 gb and about 200gb seagate drives. 2 gb (4 x 512 mb ddr ram at about 2700 and 3200 - so all runs at 2700) . MY OS is windows xp

My CPU is Intel
p4 2.80e ghz 1.4v max, system bus 800 mhz, l2 cache , 478 slot

I have an old 4xagp graphics card , its something like an ati 9000 pro

I am thinking of maybe going for a PCI Express motherboard.

Advice on motherboard and graphics cards combos is recommended (or should I use my current graphics card. I dont really have a budget but dont really want to go over $300 and would be happy to spend a lot less.

Your upgrade path is very limited. If you wanted a new graphics card, there is only 1 motherboard that supports socket 478, DDR 2700 (max of 2GB), and PCI Express x16.

I suggest you keep your graphics card because nothing you are doing requires a new video card. Here is a board from Asus that supports your current processor, ram, and graphics card. It should hold you over till you do a full rebuild of your machine.

Thanks for the advice. My hard drives are sata - I read on the ASUS mobo it does not like sata only setups. The other handy feature of my motherboard is the lan connection. I think I might just buy the same again . :D
