A DVD Driver question?!?

Can i plug/unplug my DVD driver's power cable when my PC is in sleeping mode?

My system:
Asus p5gd1 pro
P4 3.2 GHz HT
2x512 mb Kingston RAMs in dual mode
6600GT video card
Windows XP pro with sp2

no seriously:

on rigs i don't care anymore i even unplug hdd's whilst running.

i'd recommend if you do care don't tinker with the hardware as long as there's power running through it...
