So I'm looking to build this for now, and eventually upgrade to a Conroe within the next couple of months. Should all of this stuff work together? I'll be using this PC for gaming & web design stuff. I already have a 21" Sony Trinitron CRT and DVD burner I will be using.

Please let me know what you all think.

Thanks,
Casey

Here are the changes I would make:

1. Lose the extra IDE cable... the board will come with at least one.

2. Replace the Video card with: eVGA Geforce 7900GT KO Superclocked. For only $7 more, this card's clocks are 580Mhz (Core), and 1.58Ghz (Ram). Versus 450Mhz/1.3Ghz (Core/Ram) on that Asus card. Plus there's a $20 MIR if you feel like taking the extra time to possibly get some cash back.

3. Replace the RAM with OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800. This OCZ has slightly Lower timings (5-5-5-10) than the Corsair stuff you had (5-5-5-12). The OCZ is only $2 more.

Everything else looks fine.

Thanks, I'll make those changes.

Now, what's the best way to make sure I get a revision 304 motherboard? Or should I just wait until the 765 chipset boards come out? When do they come out anyways?
June 27, 2006 5:40:04 PM

to be totally honest.... I would wait for the 965 based boards to appear. That way you're guaranteed Conroe support, and with a certain Gigabyte board (GA-965P-DQ6) you're also guaranteed Kentsfield support (Intel's quad core desktop processor).

Yea I was thinking about the whole thing, and did some research into the intel board, and I'm not gaurenteed to get a 304 revision, so I'm just going to wait for the 965 chipset boards to come out.

Any idea when I'll be able to purchase them ?

The Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 should be appearing soon. It's probably going to burn a small hole in you're wallet (Expect to pay about $250-300 for it), but collectively the new system will burn a bigger one.
