i currently have an athlon64-3000+ s754 and i am thinking of upgrading to a core2duo e6300
what performance difference would i probly get in games and encoding video? (since the benchmarks only focus on the really expensive)
I wont be overclocking

also what is the core2duo e4200 or other 4xxx models?

what performance difference would i get compared to my current 3000+
20-30% improvment? more? less?
around 20% more fps in games?

Figure 50% or better, we're the on the low end of the 64's, and you're NOT overclocked.
You won't be disappointed, if you get rid of that video card LOL.

nobody knows, because this processor hasnt been released yet. If you think on upgrading, just keep thinking and waiting until it releases and benchmarks come out.

what is the e4200?
is there any other e4xxx cpu's?
are they single/dual core?
will they be any good?
as far as i know, it will be a dual core 1.6ghz and 800mhz fsb
they're supposed to be good, but like i said, nobody knows for sure as they're not benchmarked yet.

Based on some benchmarks of faster Conroe CPUs, I would say the E6300's performance will be roughly similar to an Athlon X2 4800+.

You should a decent increase in game performance, unless the video card is a real bottleneck. The higher the resolution, the greater the difference.

If you are converting DVDs to DivX then I would expect at least a 60% increase in performance. But it depends on your settings. That's a real conservative number. Same thing for converting CDs to MP3.

Edit:

I just noticed that your current system has Radeon 9600. Assuming you will be dropping $200 for a PCI-e GPU, your jaw should drop when it comes to gaming performance and eye candy.

A difference of NIGHT and DAY.

1.67 GHz, 2MB shared L2, and an 800 MHz shared FSB would lead me to believe that the overall performance will be roughly that of an X2 3800+ with its 2x512K L2 and 2.0 GHz core clock. The Core 2 arch has performed decently in recent ES benchmarks, and the apparent metric is that it is about 10-ish percent more performance per clock cycle than AMD's chips in most apps and up to 20% in others, while really FP-heavy apps like cryptography run worse on the Core 2 than on an equivalently-clocked Athlon 64.

well, i think i'm patient and somewhat realistic at that point. i prefer to wait and see
nice quote on your signature, by the way

Also remember as far as games go GPU >CPU upgrading your CPU won't increase your game by much if at all coming from your 9600 it would be better to upgrade your card if you want an improvement (then again it agp so not realy worth it unless you plan not to upgrade for about 1 year).
