I am in process of doing custom Home premium 64 bit install on my desktop.
I've done this on notebook with lots of problem only resolved by setting wireless connection to get to internet to download new mouse driver since the old driver disc showed that its mouse drivers would not work.
Fortunately I still was able to use touchpad to move mouse to get to internet.
My concern is, after i update to windows 7, if I can't use mouse on desktop machine(I have USB mouse and keyboard.), what do I do to be able to continue setting up Windows 7?
Hopefully this makes sense.
Thanks
Barry

Thanks for your quick reply. My concern was that the notebook was wireless and I had to do a lot to get internet back up. This machine is desktop and is hard wired to router, but, if I've lsot internet access on installation, i likely will need to be able to move around screen more than tabs. Am I making too much of this?
I find it hard to imagine that a USB mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. If you have a special mouse with extra buttons, etc. - those extra buttons might not work without a driver - but basic movement and left/right click functionality should still be there.
I installed Windows 7 on a 5-year-old Toshiba laptop and it's built-in touchpad worked just fine, and so did a USB mouse.
Off to update.
I forgot the concept of removing the USB connection and reinserting to allow windows 7 to install driver it doesn't recognize it at first.
Will let anyone who mightbe interested know how it went.
Thnaks again!
