i'm trying to decide between a x1800gto or a 7600gt, im willing to spend a few extra dollars on the gto so price is not the issue. After looking at benchmarks from different sites, some have the 7600gt ahead others the x1800gto even on the same game at the same resolutions there are inconsistancies. I have also heard that ati cards have superior video playback or image quality is it true? since I watch a lot of stuff on my pc.

i was in that doubt

i choose the 7600 gt because its lower cost, lower power comsuption lower size and is more cold then x1800 gto

and 7600 gt is the better of 7600 series against x1800 gto is the worst of x1800 series

when a VGA comes to be the better of a serie, i think is a good thing

x1800gto's are good overclockers i've heard, but 7600gts are pretty good stock, probably can overclock a little since it's almost maxed out. Really up to you, can't go wrong with either one.

If you want to overclock, get the X1800GTO. If you don't want to overclock, get the 7600GT or consider spending a bit more to get an X1800XT, which will pwn both the X1800GTO and 7600GT.

The price jump from X1800GTO to X1800XT 256MB hasn't been that huge at times wiht the Sapphire XT being as low as $220 AR. But from that X1800Xt to X1900xT is almost $150.

Yes that's true. ATi's video hardware and software support is better than nVidia's.

For game quality they are very similar, with only minor differences, a few things that favour ATi.

For framerates they are essentially even, winning/losing from situation to situation.

What you saw in reviews is typical where slightly different setups or even installs change the comparisons.

Get the 7600 GT if you don't plan to overclock.

If you're an overcocker, the X1800 GTO is the obvious choice, with double the memory interface, voltmodding in software, and a severely underclocked core at stock speeds. The X1800 GTO overclocks like a monster.
