Do AMD 'energy efficient' processors overclock better than their...ummm...'regular efficiency' version (didn't want to say non-energy efficient lol)? I know that they use less wattage but does that directly translate into lower heat dissipation? And then does that directly translate into a better overclock? Just curious...anyone have experience with this?

Not necessarily

Very helpful thanks :P

I was hoping for some reasons like "yes they overclock better because the low electromagnetic tolerance of the voltage in the architecture of the L2 cache causes the latency to be lower than the hypertransport speed" or observations from experience like "my 3800 EE and 3800 regular will overclock just about the same and run at about the same temperature at stock and at overclock"

Except I'd like reasons that are real, and ones that perferablely make sense :)

Well, Im not sure too sure that AMD actually wants people to buy those CPUs just for overclocking, so I think they might have lower OC potentional

The AM2 Energy Efficient processors are not available yet to retailers. It does seem that these processors are going to be either specially selected processors, or that their process will be slightly different. It has been rumored that the Opteron's that overclock especially well are SSOI, not just SOI, so this could be a continuance of that strategy, if true. If they are anything like the 754 mobile chips, odds are good that they will overclock well, also. Athlon Mobile 4000 Newarks are known to hit around 3.25ghz pretty consistantly.
