I currently have an AMD ATHLON XP 2600 with a Geforce 5600
The thing is I cant play FEAR properly.
I am planning to buy a new AGP card as i dont want to upgrade to A PCIE board(Read waiting for conroe)
Will i be able to play FEAR properly with An XFX Geforce 6800 XT AGP???

first of all this should be in the graphics card section but owell.

it should run it well but not perfect.

you would be better off with a 7800gs agp if you can afford it.
it depends on some other stuf a well.
how much ram do u have?
the cpu isn't very good but should be ok. it would probly match a 6800

check out the vga charts for more info

ok then
1gig should be ok
your sytem with the xfx 6800xt should run fear on medium-high quality at 1024x768 at least.
maybe highest quality 1024x768 im not sure exactly though

I tried this game on a 6600GT, XP2600+, 1GB RAM.

It was playable on 1024x768, medium settings for CPU, medium-high settings for graphics.

so a 6800 should be OK. But, take into consideration that 6800XT is the worst of the 6800 family, maybe even worse than the 6600GT.

the 6800gt is good
the 6800ultra is better
the 6800gs is the new one and is probly in between the above 2 or maybe similar to the gt.
im not sure about the xt. i dont think it is an actual nvideo chip. i think its just the name xfx gives to one of its 6800's. it is not good though. the 6600gt is similar and probly cheaper.
if you can afford it go with the 6800gt/ultra

here are some benchmarks of agp cards.

you will not be able to play oblivian well
oblivion probly has the highest requirement of any game
it also requires alot of cpu power
it will run but not well.

the 6800XT has the lowest number of pipelines (and probably the lowest clock speeds, too - not very sure) out of the 6800 family.

In AGP, the 6800 GS isn't nearly as good as the 6800 GT.

6800 XT<6800 GS<6800 GT<6800 ultra

Best bang for your AGP buck is a used 6800 GT or X800 XL on ebay, should be able to either it up for $150, and performance is very good on those cards - about 90% as good as the AGP king, the 7800 GS***.

*** at stock clock speeds

The 6800XT is a funny card. it comes in so many different clock speeds. Some have slower clocked mem than the 6800le's even.

Of all the 6800's I can think about in AGP, I'd rank them from Worst to best at their stock speeds:

Asus 6800 512MB (128-bit 12 pipes) (pathetic noob exploiting junker)
6800le and 6800xt (256-bit 8 pipes) (325-350MHz/600-700Mhz)
(6600GT)
6800XT clocked 350/1000
6800 reference(256-bit 12-pipe 700MHz DDR)
6800 and 6800GS reference(256-bit 12-pipe, 1000 DDR)
6800GS OC models
6800GT ( & OC)
6800U (& OC)

Anyway, this wasn't meant to edumacate you. Just wanted to add to your list and say there are 3-6800's that stock the 6600GT can match or beat.

I'm thinking the $139 X850 pro from ATI is his best bet.

What, you saying I'm too stupid to be edumicated? :p

But it's true, I should have known better... I've read your notes about the 6800 XT before, should have kept 'em in mind. Won't forget next time. :)
