No sane person would take the SLI 6800XT's over the 7900. Its that simple.

Reply to raven_87

so absolutly no lower model nvidia video card in sli will match a 7900gt?

]Exactly. 7600GT SLI might come close, but I'd still take the 7900GT. And then get another 7900GT and do SLI for less than one 7900GTX.

Reply to angry_ducky

Two 6800XTs don't even come close to a 7900GT.

Reply to prozac26

oh shyt... another post like the "SLI 7300 512mb better or one 7900gt"

Reply to TSIllusion

First SLI or CX is a waste then 2 6800 doesn't come close to a 7900GT and if you want SLI buy one 7950 GX2 that would run all games and you don't have to upgrade like in 3 or even 5 years!(only buy one more to goe SLI so you don't loss performance beside in that years this card will be like in $90 and thats all )

sorry lol no more i promise i think i have the idea now

Reply to lewbaseball07

id rather get a 7900gtx than 2 7900gt its cheaper

Reply to lewbaseball07

2 x top of the line 6800s, the 6800 ultras are < 1 x 7800GTX < 1 x 7900GT

Needless to say, 2 x 6800xt wont even come close to a single 7900GT

With a simple Voltage mod, 7900GT will match performances of a 7900GTX but of course if you have the money, you can jump straight into a 7900GTX!!!!

arent 7900's failing left and right..

Some stock overclocked cards have had problems, but they're problem free for the most part.

Reply to prozac26

Thats why I think sli is a waste of money and a gimmick. Sure its great when you get it, but then the next gen card comes out and spanks both your cards, then what?

Reply to MrsD

I can't speak for other makers, but over on the Evga boards 79XX series cards are failing left and right. There's people on their 4th-5th RMA'd cards.

Reply to NeedHelpNoobie

The two people who voted for SLId 6800 XT's don't know what they're talking about...

A single 7900 GT would slaughter 'em.

Reply to Cleeve

Everyone says that, can anyone prove it? Has there been benchmarks? I want to see them. I don't know squat about video cards but I also know I don't believe anything anyone says over the internet..

Reply to NeedHelpNoobie

I don't think anyone has bothered comparing 2 6800XT's to a 7900GT behemoth. Really, it should be common sense.

I can't even find benchmarks for a 6800xt even after some google searching, makes me wonder.

Still, the 7900GT will wipe the floor with the 6800xt, spit on it, then mock it as it lies dying on the ground.

Reply to Pompeii

I know for a fact that a single 7900 GT will beat two 7600 GTs (I've seen benches, if you need to see 'em too, google it)

I also know that the 7600 GT is about as fast as a 6800 Ultra, which is much, much faster than a 6800 XT.

So it's common sense.

You know, I see what you mean! Everyone talks about Conroe vs FX62 with Conroe winning, we've all seen the benchmarks. But has anyone bothered to do any comparisons between Conroe and a 486DX?

I haven't seen any benchmarks for it yet - the 486 could well be faster.

(Moral of the sarcastic rant - use common sense, some things you can know without benchmarks)

blah blah blah Talk talk talk no benches still?

K thx. Until then I doubt. There's my common sense

Reply to NeedHelpNoobie

Blah blah find the benches yourself jerk, we don't live to serve your whims. Try GOOGLE.

On second thought, don't bother... two 6800 XT's kick ass. They lay waste to a 7900 GT. BUY THEM BEFORE OTHER PEOPLE FIND OUT HOW AWESOME THEY ARE!

Good advice! :D

To the average consumer, it's not common sense that the 6800XT sucks @$$. Here's why: ATI attatches the name "XT" to the end of the top card in a series (IE: X1900XT). ATI uses "GT" for their crappy, pipeline locked, crippled memory cards. When that person looks at a 6800XT and a 7900GT, they will think that the 6800XT is better because it signifies a top-range card. Maybe the companies do it on purpose to confuse the consumers.

Reply to angry_ducky

the 7900gt pwnes 2 6800xt's, it would have more than double the pixelpipelines, because i believe the 6800xt has 8 pixelpipelines, and then sli doesnt double performance, it just increases performance by a meer 5-30%, in other words, its best not to get sli right away, if u are smart u buy a 7900gtx or x1900xt and then when the next gen cards come out and the 7900's and x1900's drop in price, like MAJOR drop in price, u sli so u dont need to go spend money on cards that will become obsolete in a few years, u save money, and i dont see how u come out losing, because any game runs on a x1900, 7900gtx at full settings now, theres no need to have sli!

Reply to Fagaru

Yes, but it is common sense to believe people who know the answer to a question when you seek them out in the first place, and know nothing yourself.

Reply to Cleeve

There. Now all he needs is a benchmark showing the 7900 GT > 7800 GT, and a benchmark showing a 6800 XT < 6800 GS...

Look at this link: http://www.hardinfo.com/show.asp?page=6462

The 6800XT is pulling a huge 8 fps. If you struggle to find it, just look way down in last place on the first chart. Lets just say you get more than lucky and double your performance with SLI. You are now = to a single 6800GT. 6800GT SLI only added 10fps making for 26. And as you can see, a single 7900GT wasted 6800GT SLI by double the framerates.

Do you still need to see SLI 6800XT vs 7900GT, or can you use the brain God gave you to figure out which is better? Study the numbers:

6800XT 8 fps
6800GT 16 fps
6800GT SLI 26 fps
7900GT 60 fps
7800GTX 47 fps (a little below reference 7900GT)

OMG 8 fpos thats crazy......lmao, go with a stock overclocked 7900gt

You dont have to tell us that "you don't know squat about video cards....."!! We can judge from your reply!!

If you dont believe what 92% of the people's advices in this thread then why are you reading it??

There are plenty of benchmarks out there...............

The 512MB memory does JACK-ALL.........this is not just for 6xxx series but also the 7xxx series, the 7900GT will still kill the 6800xt even if it had 1GB worth memory on it and 2GB in SLI configuration!!!

The extra memory will only give it a few extra frames but nothing spectacular!!!

 OKAY OKAY OKAY SO I WAS OWNED.

DRAG ME THROUGH THE MUD WHILE UR JUMPING UP AND DOWN ON MY LOW FPS HEAD IN CSS.

I have to admit, I had this beastly master plan to buy two of these cheaper cards and sli them and have a monster FPS machine. Then when you crushed my hopes I faught to regain my FPS dreams of a dual cheap VGA card monster...

/me kicks dirt

:( You win, I suck.

Reply to NeedHelpNoobie

Fear not vanquished noob!
You can pick up a 7900GT on newegg for $250 or less. Then you will have a beasty FPS machine for not alot of dough.

Reply to jkflipflop98

Bro, are you kidding us here :D
You have to realize that older cards do not have certain features and key hardware, than todays modern cards, not to mention clock speed and arcitechtural designs. The answer is obviously the 7900gt, even if it only has 256mb of onboard ram. The newer tha betta :D
BTW, what makes you think that 2x 6800xt could overpower the 7900gt??
Just curious

wow, you would really be pissed off if you got two 6800XTs. Then you'll be even more owned.

Reply to prozac26

I ended up ordering an MSI X1900XT last night for $315.

I play games atleast 3 hours a day, usually more like 5-6 hours so this investment should pay for itself (with my gaming pleasure of course) in a few months. And if I get the opportunity to snatch another one up for under $300 in the next 2 months I will and xfire them.

LOL if I'd have bought two 6800's and got 15fps in oblivion I have no idea what I'd have done.. most likely posted here with a "WTF I HAVE TWO 6800's AND I GET 15FPS RAWWWR!"

Reply to NeedHelpNoobie

Hey, congrats. That is an awesome card for oblivion... great deal, too. Open box?

Reply to Cleeve

Actually the card is brand new.. It has a $30.00 Mail in rebate, and I had a $60 Newegg gift certificate to use. Not bad for a card that's listed at $405

Now to see if I actually get the $30 back on the mail in rebate.. I've done tons of these rebates from TigerDirect and Newegg now and I've only been stiffed once by some geneirc Soyo brand. So I'll keep my fingers crossed for the $30 :P

Reply to NeedHelpNoobie

Nice, you're really going to enjoy the X1900, million of generations ahead of two 6800XTs.

Reply to prozac26

Soyo was pretty bad on rebates (for a while anyway).

Enjoy the card!
