Im getting random freezes and i think it might be because my vidcard is overheating. I dont overclock, but after a few hours of playing (low resource hungry) games I turned my comp off and felt the back of the heatsink on the card and it was pretty roasting.. i dunno if this is normal =/

I just got home after leaving an old game on idle; GPU core temp: 104C, ambient temp:76C .. the default core slowdown threshold is set at 120c ..

I dont know much about proper temperatures... so is this too high? lol

That's high. Especially if you left your system idling. Consider a new cooler.

can a problem with the mobo be causing the card to overheat?

atm its at 102c and my game is sorta freezing up for like 2-3 seconds once every 30-40seconds (mouse still moves freely, its the video freezing)

I think it's highly unlikely that the mobo is causing the overheating.

Those temps are crazy! Pull your card out and inspect it. Look for a large collection of dust and/or hair in the heatsink's fins.

I took the center circle part of the cover off It looks like this btw
looked all inside and no dust no nothing. I gave it a few short aircan bursts tho anyway just to be sure, but it was pretty clean.

plugged it back in with the round fan grate thing off so i could see inside, and yep the fan is dying.

gonna have to look for a replacement fan to fit in there...
