The sims game, and SHELL.DLL

my sims game was continually crashing, so i uninstalled it. now when i
reinstalled it I get a popup saying cannot find SHELL.DLL . Sometimes it
runs, but it never gets past the screen where it says updating money
exchange. Then it freezes, and the cd stops spinning in the computer. So what
is SHELL.DLL, and how can i fix the problem with the cd. I really want to
install my expansion packs, but i cant because my real game isn't working..

Have you fixed the crashing problem? The same keeps happening on my
computer. I haven't un/re-installed though.
