ati tray tools wont overclock

i have the pc in my sig
however when i go to oc my vid card i go to hardware > overclock and it shows default frequencies. Just above this it says overclocking disabled.

I also tried ati tool. I get can get it to overclock, however when i tried to play half life 2 it jus went back to the default clocks.

I also tried using radlinker as i saw somewhere that by setting the clocks i maxed out in ati tool in radlinker will mean i can use the clocks in games. However that also just goes back to default settings

any ideas?

I would recommend to check the "Power-user" feature of ATI Tray Tools if it have them, they sometime have an option to override the driver clocks managing ; some card have a system that constantly pool them to check if its ok, maybe this reset your clock when it does. Or maybe dont install you ATI control center, just use ATI tray tools and install the driver the oldschool way, by going to the good ol' device manager.
