I don't think this is possible if both domains are in the same forest. The
initial domain abc.com is the forest root, and can't be brought down even if
you switch all the FSMO roles to the new child domain. What you should do
is as follows.

1. Bring up new forest called abc2.com (I recommend something .LAN though)
2. Use the built-in migration tools from MSFT, or a third-party tool to
then migrate all the users / groups / and computers to the new domain.
3. Setup a trust between the two domains to allow users to login to the new
domain from workstations joined to the old domain.
4. Use a login script to run NETDOM to join all the workstations from the
old domain to the new domain.

Third-party migration tools offer better solutions.

Quest Software makes a AD to AD migration tool that is pretty good.

NETDOM is a Microsoft Tool found in the support tools of the server CD.
