In perusing for links, I found an interestign tidbit tucked away in the bottom left corner of Newegg's home page.

It was a poll that asks if buyer's would want an FX62 on 939 or if they would rather upgrade to AM2.

From the page: go through image whatever - please.

Would you be interested in purchasing an FX-62 based on socket 939 if made available?

Yes I'd prefer a socket 939 FX-62

No I'd rather upgrade to FX-62 on AM2

It's been there a while.
It's not like it matters - I heard a rumor that AMD is terminating S939 production.
A rumor.

Well, I haven't seen an official FX cancellation but X2/939 is gone except for the 4800+. If they have a truly modular design it may be possible to run off 939 for the FX. I actually want 939 to go away so that DDR2 can grow more but it's hard to say what AMD will do.

If thats the case, I hope the FX prices will drop to a more reasonable price cause I dont really want to jump to DDR2 at the moment since DDR3 modules are now surfacing.........

I thought you just made a (pretty decent, actually) sarcastic comment as the Socket 939 being discontinued has been widely publicized for a while now.

Intel claims Q2 2007.
If AMD learned anything from the DDR-->DDR2 trasistion, they won't go first. I guess 2008, perhaps with K10.

I wasn't quite sure whether to stand 100% behind it for fear of being wrong.

What about the "No, my S939 dual core CPU already runs faster than 2.8GHz" option ?

I could build a 2nd rig for the price of an FX62 alone...

Amen to that!

Those Optie 165's are beasts!!! It pained me to sell the one i got for 150% of what i paid for it :( Hopefully in a year or two i could pick another one up for cheap because i dont plan on upgrading my socket....

Good idea but I didn't think of it. I could probably get my 4400+ to 2.8 but I'm not into OC.

yea a fx-62 would kinnda be pointless.

So how is AM2 treating you? Did you have 939?
