Comp with blue screen

I started up my computer and after the Windows XP logo loading screen, I got a blue screen. It said unbootable_mount_drive or something like that. Why did this happen? I have had LOTS of problems with my Dell and I plan to build my new PC.

Dimension 3000
2 GB RAM
80 GB IDE Seagate Barracuda HD

Please help! My mom's about to kill me! lol

My friends said that this is caused by the mobo?

  1. UPDATE

    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME is what it says.
  2. unmountable_boot_volume means that either the file system on the drive is screwed and you will need to reinstall the operating system. Or, it means your hard drive is dying and needs to be replaced.
  3. Probably a bad hard drive. You need to check what brand of hard drive you have, then get a copy of their disk diagnostics on a floppy, boot to that and do a diagnostic on your hard drive.
  4. In the meantime, you may want to start backing up your data just in case.
  5. Unmountable Boot Volume means that your boot.ini files are corrupted. I just fixed a laptop with the same error. You need a windows disk to enter the recovery console to rebuild your boot.ini. If you can get a windows disk I can walk you through the process.
