Hi,

Is the AMD X2 4400 AM2 cpu worth the extra 100 dollars over the 4200? Is the cache worth the cash?
Thanks!

Hard to say from a user standpoint. it is said that only a few apps need the extra cache so I guess no it's not. I actually went with it because I wasn't OCing and I thoguht it would help with compiling code.

I won't be overclocking, just games, music recording, and some photo manipulation. What applications use the extra cache?
Going with the 4200 unless I see a need for the cache.
Thanks!

Photo stuff can use it. Music recording I think also, since it's a streaming tech. From your list you look like a good candidate for 1MB

Thanks for the link to the chart.
A lot of the performance was pretty close, except for the Multitasking II.
There was over a 30 second difference!

I believe that's enough to get me to shell out the extra cash :)

AMD might not drop the price of the 4400+ because it has 2x1MB cache. AMD has dropped the prices of all their single cores except for the 3700+ and 4000+ San Diego, which are the two CPUs with 1MB cache.
